Life After You
I want to talk about cancer
How it came and got you quick
But made you suffer for so long
How strong you were
While your strength was slipping
I want to talk about November 4th 2011
It was quiet
I was surrounded by a group of people who knew you
Cared and loved you just as much as I did
We were looking down at a black box
That was soon to be below ground
I look over and see your daughter, my mom
Her feelings were releasing through her eyes
The first time I’d ever seen her cry
My feelings were paralyzed
It didn’t quite register that you were in that box
To this day
I still haven’t gone to your finished grave
I want to talk about family
We all fell apart
You were our glue
Now we have all these pieces
And no way to put them together
I want to talk about mom
She's silent.
She lost her father
The one who loved her from the start
She never talks about her feelings anymore
You must have took them with you
I want to talk about grandma
She refuses to call us unless there is a problem
We got shut out by her
She lives so far away
And makes no effort to see us
She isn’t like you
And now we see that
I want to talk about me
I miss you so much
How come you wouldn't let me see you before you left?
Did I do something?
Did you forget that no matter what I’d be there?
I was on my way to see you
I didn’t care that you said no
But you couldn't wait
All these thoughts and nothing to do with them
I remain silent
I want to talk about now
How life has gone on without you by our sides
We are still in recovery
Unfortunately nothing helps a collapsed heart
Maybe one day it will reform
But there will always be that dent
That cancer left for us
