The Owl or the Peacock
Is pride good or bad?
Is pride good, like the feeling
of accomplishing what you’ve
worked so hard for?
Like the feeling of your spirits
lifting like the freedom
of the morning dew?
Is pride good, like the pride of
lions encouraging their young?
Is pride bad, like the flower towering
over, not realizing they’re all just
roots in the ground?
Like the medicine that can only
be good in small doses?
Is pride bad, like a god complex:
making people feel sadly inferior
as you are arrogantly superior?
Like the dysfunctional pride, working
toward spiteful revenge or
prideful disdain?
What does pride do besides
measure your sense of worth
against others rather than your own
previous achievements?
Should you be like the peacock,
high above others,
maintaining standards,
too vain for wisdom?
Or like the owl,
too wise for vanity,
too wise for pride?
