I come from people who try
People that try their hardest to give me everything.
People who work everyday
that try to make my life as easy as possible
To teach me the abc’s and 123’s of life
That try to get me to make the right decisions
and tell me about their mistakes
To prevent me from making the same ones

I come from looking up to an older sister
From trying to be just like her
From proving an older brother wrong
And arguing daily with him
From a lab as the family pet
From spending Sunday morning breakfast together

I come from parents with expectations
the expectation to have good grades
From the expectation to help around the house
From the expectation to wake up early and shovel on snowy days
the expectation to try and give all that I can
And to never say that I can’t.

I come from a father telling me to leave the room any time a game is on
an impatient mother who works more than she doesn’t
a sister who never wants anything to do with me
from a brother that couldn’t care less about what I do.

I come from a family who lives paycheck to paycheck
who just brushes problems under the rug instead of dealing with them
one that isn’t afraid to give their opinion even when it hurts.
I come from a family that isn’t perfect
but I come from a family that loves each other.
