Lessons
Perhaps the stars learned how to shine by staring in your eyes,
Heights learned to excite from the pounding you sent into my chest, and
Fires learned to warm bones from feeling your embrace.
But then again-
Maybe the waves learned to say goodbye to the shore from the way you left me,
Arrows found hearts to pierce by your example, and
Crying figured out how to make one feel hollow only after you tought it.
From leaving me, you taught the world to hurt yet it managed to heal from the memories left like fingerprints on my skin.
MY finger shaped bruises served as a reminder not to love so easily-
Never get lost in those eyes or let butterflies fool you or get too comfortable in any mans' embrace.
Instead, I learned to deal with goodbyes, wear body armor across my heart, and how to fill empty spaces when I couldn't just ignore them.
I wonder what lessons I got to teach you.
