The Keys
the palm trees are soft with heat
bashed in with salt
sticking to the sweaty underarms of the breeze
who sits and sleeps, rocking in
the wet shade of clouds
as they drag their storm-heavy stomachs over the
pan-hot pavement
with tiny blisters erupting on their belly-buttons
while the yellow pus rains down thick over the palm trees
clinging to their scraggly Afros like
bubblegum
