In the Night...
I am terrified of the night,
But not for the reasons you might think.
I actually love the darkness;
The sense of not knowing where I am,
And that the blackness conceals my thoughts and feelings.
No, I am afraid of the night
Because that is when my mind comes alive.
Night is the only time I want sleep,
And the only time I can't sleep.
At night, I am alone with my mind;
I have no distractions to keep me from it.
My thoughts wander over the day:
The stresses, worries, the hidden feelings.
Night is when I am most vulnerable;
When my protective walls come down
And my true hurt, sadness, and feelings are revealed.
My deepest fears come to the surface in raw pain,
Until even having a heart becomes too unbearable.
But night is when I sort out truth from lie,
And discover what is right and wrong,
Even though I crave rest and sleep.
I discover a terrifying and wonderful world at night;
Things that amaze and scare me to the point of crying.
But it's okay I think;
My tears will never be known to even me,
For the darkness hides them in the silent, shadowy night.
