The first time she spoke,
To me,
Was on our first playdate.
4 years old, playing silently,
By herself.
Keeping a good distance away,
From the stranger that was me.
I couldn't stop talking.
Telling her how awesome
She is and how
I can't wait to be her friend.
She doesn't answer,
Just sighs.
My constant chattering
Fills the small bedroom.
I explore the room,
Become aware of my surroundings.
There's a large cabinet,
Full of horse figurines,
Horse toys, horse books,
And several more.
"I like your horses,"
I said with a smile.
She looks up
From her pony book.
Looks at me,
Rolls her eyes
And resumes reading.
Still persistent on becoming friends,
I walk up to her.
"Why won't you talk?"
Again, she looks up
Blue eyes wide
She grins at me.
"Don't you like
The ugly animals?"
I exploded with laughter.
It's true, I do
Like the "ugly animals",
I just prefer
To call them reptiles.
She turns red
"Why are you laughing?
It's not funny!"
I can't stop my laughter.
And because it's contagious
It doesn't take long
For her to be laughing
as hard as me.
