Words are more powerful than most things in this world. They are our voice, our thoughts, our ideas. They have the ability to tell the world what we think, feel, believe. But they also have the ability to keep silent. To keep private the mayhem that lies in our minds. They can speak of love, hate, passion, disinterest, anger, sadness, fear . They can lie and make ourselves seem like something we are not or tell the truth and have who we are exposed for the world to see. They can begin a relationship or end a friendship. They can finish a fight or start a war. They can forgive or place blame. They can be kind or hurtful. Words can sting like a thousand knives or comfort you like a warm embrace. Words can raise us up or bring us crumbling down. Words can light a fire in our belly or kick us to the curb. Words can be risky, for the reaction to them is never for certain and the uncertainty scares us. Once a word is spoken, it is out there forever. It is absorbed into the world of words and finds it's place among the voices of the past and will stay there forever. The immortality of words is where the fear of them lies, but also where the true power of words is held. Words are who we are.
