Those Earbuds Always Seem to Get Tangled...
Unplugging the jack,
the tune still in your head.
You’re in a good mood.
Shove the cord into your pocket
neatly.
It crawls silently,
creeping its way out of the darkness
of the small pocket.
Delicately, it ties the long cord into one big
jumble.
It’s so quiet and gentle
you wouldn’t have guessed
that it would do something so wicked,
or that it was even there in the first place.
You wouldn’t know how bad it was
until your pull out the cord
and it’s all
tangled.
Your mood drops.
You question as you untangle it,
“Dang it, what did this happen?
What did I do to deserve this?
What are you?
Do you even exist?”
