Mom I'm afraid to tell you
I'm afraid you won't understand
I'm scared you'll will disown me as your daughter
I'm petrified that you will forget about me.
Mom, I love you
You may not understand what it's like to walk in my shoes
I'm trying to help you understand but complicated
Mom you may not see all the good things I do
But I promise Mom they're there.
You might have to look a little hard then you do with all the others
But Mom I promise I still love you
I don't hurt myself to hurt you
I hurt myself to feel like I am human again
To feel like I belong somewhere in this world
Mom I'm sorry if I hurt you but you have to try to understand
I can't do this all on my own mom
Everytime I try to tell you all you do is push me away.
Dear Mom,
I'm afraid.

I was inspired to write this poem after going to a poetry slam and realizing I wasn't the only one in pain.
