Dear Dance
Dance, the love I have for you,
The way you can move me when the beat is right,
The rhythm you have sprung into my step.
It’s the hop in my step that has made me who I am.
Dance, the lessons you’ve taught me,
You have shown me how to listen,
Not just with my ears,
But with my heart.
Dance, you have made me into a leader,
For the children that have not yet established your love.
Some may never but the ones who do,
Will feel the special feeling of your embrace.
Dance, you will always exist,
But I don’t have forever to love you.
I share my life with you,
Even if it’s only a short time before, we have to say good bye.
Dance, thank you,
For the aching muscles that have made me stronger,
For the lessons you continue to teach,
For giving me the opportunity to love you
Dance, one day we will have to say goodbye.
Until then, let’s saver every dance routine,
Every step, song,
And beat, to the very last breath we take together.
Dance, I once was a lost child in this sea of people,
Just trying to find myself.
You taught me it was okay to be different,
Different in this case made me an individual.
Dance, the hours I have spent learning your ways,
How to turn, spin, and leap was just the beginning.
I will never regret the time or pain that’s been spent on you,
Because to me it wasn’t wasted, it was time cherished.
