Streetlights
There was once I saw a light.
That shined so bright.
But now the light has to fight.
Fight to even have some light.
Because if it dies out.
All the battles it had fought and the life it has brought will all be washed down the drain.
All the efforts will go in vain.
That should never happen which is what the mind says.
But then really the heart feels another way.
Caught up in this mess I rather be a child where I would be safe in the nest.
But then as a child I wanted to fly high.
Now looking back to those intentions make me sigh.
My heart says it’s alright to fail.
But my mind begs me to sail.
Sail far away to a place.
A place where I still have a face.
Society has its way.
Its way of putting one in their place.
So should I run and hide or wait for the light to shine bright?

It was a flickering streetlight that inspired this piece. It is about a lost person walking down the street at night thinking about their life. And has two choices just like the flickering light either to give up or hang in there for the light to come.
