A Soldier’s Sacrifice

Making sacrifices every day,

important events missed, immeasurable time spent away.

Thinking of the greater good and not just self,

understanding their gestures will not lead to great wealth.

A combination of both fear and pride,

ready for adventure, yet unsure of the ride.

Standing up for people without a voice,

determined to uphold their right to make their own choice.

On the battlefield or behind the scences,

not always sure of the order or what it all means.

Yes, without question they jump into battle,

to protect the innocent with nerves that don't rattle.

Never two days truely alike,

one day shivering in cold, the next a 30 mile hike.

Setting up camp in some foreign land,

or comforting sick and lending a hand.

Trying to stay focused on the task ahead,

yet, their hearts are back home wishing they could tuck someone in bed.

Holding on hope for the next letter or call,

praying for strength before hitting the wall.

Soldiers are heros wearing red, white and blue,

giving their time and their talents without much ado.

An amazing gift to all who live free,

a solider is someone you can be proud to be.
