One Arm Bandit
Hustling into the musty, overflowing room,
flashy lights spin you with excitement.
Lines of mysterious machines all in order
like burglars,
ready to secretly mug you.
You pick your thief and as the day continues
into night, you're desperate money begins to disappear.
You cannot fight the urge
that keeps you throwing your chips into
the scheming crooks arms.
You try to control yourself but
keep finding yourself back at the same seat,
sitting with the same bandit you've come to know so well.
One more day you tell yourself,
One more pull in hopes you can be the thief.
After years of endless failure,
hope seems to be just a few yanks away.
Emotions of vast excitement have quickly
faded when making eye contact
with the machine that stole all your hard earned money.
