A Letter to the Extremely Self-Conscious Adolescent Girl
you are not ugly
you are not fat
you are not disgusting
you are not worthless
take off your makeup
brush your hair out of your eyes
put on your favorite pair of jeans
wear your loveliest smile
look in the mirror
do not hate yourself
say “i am beautiful” over and over
trust that you are telling the truth
do not hurt yourself
don’t you even dare
you do not deserve this pain
you deserve to live
go outside and lay in the
grass or on the pavement
breath in deeply
feel air in your lungs
call a friend
you do have friends
they do care
you do exist
it’s okay to be scared
it’s okay to cry
it’s okay to be angry
it’s okay to be human
it’s okay to smile
it’s okay to be excited
it’s okay to laugh
it’s okay to be human
