Faded Photographs
The only picture
we ever took together
is in my basement.
It is there
sitting stone still
gathering dust
in one of the boxes
holding the relics of my childhood
for that is what you have become.
We are smiling
(at the world, at each other)
eyes lit up like strings of LEDs
as if we are in
on a secret.
On the secret.
We see the answers
to every question
ever asked.
They’re all right there
in that photograph
if you look for them.
I’ve thought a lot about
what I would say to you
if I had the chance.
I hope you’re happy
in California.
I wonder if you remember
the way your eyes looked
like sunlight
filtering through emeralds.
