Persevere

I was once innocent
didn't know the meaning of the word "quit"
that all changed one day
so my  mom started to pray
as time goes on
we bicker, we fight
there was a dark period of time
where I couldn't see the light
it didn't stop there, cause' that's when my dad came
that's when he said, "You bring this family shame."
I was troublesome, difficult, complicated, and ONEROUS
the only thing I liked was that I was COURAGEOUS
I stood up for the people who weren't worth it
By the end of the day, I had realized they weren't worth s***
I made mistakes
I lied,
hurt people that were there
most of all, I felt like life was UNFAIR
If that wasn't bad enough
I started to spiral down
not many people noticed,
I covered it with a homecoming gown
my hobbies became my ADDICTION
It was the same thing as a prescription
but then one day
it started to change
suddenly my life REARRANGED
at first I felt inexorably,
reluctant to move forward,
scared
not confident
were the feelings I felt
As time goes on
buckled my belt
I got up from my a**
and began to work fast
there I was
overcame so many OBSTACLES
I now am looking down
to those I looked up
a year later
I am now at my goals
for once in my life I feel
satisfied
I now want to do
even better than BEFORE
prom, senior year
college, and so much MORE
some habits don't go away
in fact
most have stayed
so you must be wondering
what has changed?
In all honesty
I don't know either
I am still
truculent
mendacious
narcissistic
as EVER
But one thing I've noticed,
is that I've gotten much CLEVER
now comes to the end, and to a new beginning
as I'm writing this
I assure you, I am grinning.
