Flying to Safety
A baby bird falling,
Out of the nest.
Hits the ground.
Is now
Trapped.
I was falling
Into a bottomless pit.
Hitting the bottom
Where the walls started to
Cave in.
I was just as trapped
As the baby bird.
Fighting against
The whirling wind,
The broken wing,
The unknown skill
But my fight was the
Struggle after struggle
Against
Peers,
Myself,
Teachers,
Coaches.
After each time we
Tried to get ourselves
Back to safety.
But
Our feet still remained
On the ground
Of the bottomless pit
Until
A warm and
Comforting hand
Reached down to help.
A hand only of
A mother.
Reaching
To her long lost,
Child.
The baby bird
Placed back home.
Safe in its nest.
Me back
On the road to
Optimism and happiness.
The baby bird
Still injured,
Though less.
Me still
Struggling,
Though less.
Still both of us reach
Out in gratitude
To the hands of
Our mothers.
