The Granddaughter
She comes to your home, open arms and accepting the love you give her despite your opinions.
But who you love is fake, is she not?
You love the granddaughter that sings at church with joy in her heart, you love the granddaughter who will grow up to love a man and bear great-grandchildren for you to fawn over.
You love the granddaughter who knows that some dead man on a cross will bring her to a better life after death, you love the granddaughter who does not accept this 'alternate lifestyle' of her hidden homosexuality as truth.
You love the granddaughter who thinks as a republican, shooing away the thoughts of liberalism and its ideology. You love the granddaughter who does not cringe at the sound of Fox News on television, the one who believes that "gay people will land themselves in hell."
You do not love the granddaughter who feels physically sick with anxiety when she steps into the church building, feeling as if she is standing in a room of oppression, having to bathe herself in the opinions of those against her mother and herself.
You do not love the granddaughter who only feels physical attraction towards women, you do not love the granddaughter, a lesbian.
You do not love the granddaughter, the agnostic, who does not believe in such places as Heaven, Hell, and feels like this whole man who matryed himself, while courageous and standing for a cause, is not her savior.
You do not love the granddaughter who does not believe, and follow, the politics and religion who say her existence is wrong and sinful. She sees so many and herself hurt, cry, and be disgsuted at how their community and they are treated daily from ideals such as this.
You know nothing of your granddaughter, you know the mask of the one you love as your "little girl" and will never understand the pain she goes through everytime she visits, only to be rejected again.
Once you know her, you will reject her, and may cry and yell.
Will you open your arms for her, just as she has for you?

This was inspired by my personal struggles with my grandmother and my sexual orientation. I hope this can show people that they are not alone when it comes to situations such as hiding yourself from people who do not accept you.
