First Fall
The gleaming grey of the fireman's pole shone bright in the dazzling sunlight
she stood on the faded wood and gazed past the bar at the cloudy sky
one hand gripped the pole and the other followed suit
exhilaration hit her system as she flew down the pole
one hand slipped
and then another
The ground rushed up to meet her
a sickening crack echoed throughout
the girl was too proud for tears
teeth sinking into her bottom lip
she climbed up to her feet on unsteady legs
the injured arm hung limp at her side
she trooped up the hill and to her mother
once she got to her a single tear drop fell
the bravery leaked out of her as the pain set in
