why they call it First Love
they say the First Heartbreak is the most painful
they say the First Love is the one that hits you hardest
not sure how to reach for a hand to hold you up
not sure how to stop your heart from beating
beating so often it could power a whole town
kiss me, I’m not ready
but when I am I’m not sure how to tell you how
you hug me when I don’t need it
but when I do need it you can’t tell
we’re new to this
but we keep on trying anyway.
but as we leave each other for the day
I worry the most
where do walk when i am gone?
do you find another to throw your stares at?
does your smile melt another?
does another linger when they catch your eye? does they even know about me?
another school might as well be another world.
do you hesitate for me because you love another?
do I love you?
I know I once did; what hit me before was too strong to deny.
but i’m not sure if it’s stayed and I’m not sure if you have.
one day you’ll make another person as happy as you made me.
they call it first love because it indicates another afterwards.
I’m afraid of the afterwards,
but I’m even more afraid of us.
