Lemons
  A snide comment,
  an unnecessary remark,
  some more sour than usual,
  others bittersweet
  Raw wounds
  and acid juice
  Some are small,
  others come in their
  full-bodied,
  unwashed glory
  What can we do
  when throwing back the lemon
  is not a choice?
  How can I make lemonade
  without water
  or sugar?
Start with one slice at a time,
take a seed here and there,
  because conquering what life offers
in all its bitter arbitrary nature
  of unforeseen pain,
  is not being in control
  of the lemon,
  but wielding the knife.
