The Golden Years
Long ago, in the golden age
So long ago we do not remember
We dashed outside
Dancing on the first signs of Autumn
Fingertips scraping across pavements
Chapped lips and runny noses
We played until we were whole
Until Fall had filled us once more
This was before, of course
Before we both shed our myopia of life
That had held us for so long
But see, someone was there that day
That day long ago, a day lost in oblivion
Lost in a multitude of memories and thought
Someone was there
And they captured us
Mittened hand in mittened
They capture the essence
Of that golden afternoon
They
Whoever they were
Preserved us, you and I
In a simple click of a button
That photograph
Left on my doorstep years ago
Lies underneath my pillow everynight
And sometimes
Just sometimes
I can see us
Dancing among the fresh leaves of Autumn
Basking in the golden glory of youth
And briefly
For the smallest moment
I am whole once more.

I live somewhere that has an endless summer. I have always loved Autumn, the chill in the air, the cliche falling leaves. I imagined a scene in which two youngs kids are playing, enjoying the brisk fall air and focused on how much a small press of a button can capture virtually any moment.
