i drink you

I found you at the bottom of a bottle
of whiskey and I promised myself
long ago that it would never come to this
But with each drop that burns
down my throat I feel the faint
touch of your hand grow stronger
and the soft edges of your voice
grow more defined as my vision gets hazy.
Many people try to diagnose me
but they don’t understand--
I am not addicted to alcohol,
I am addicted to you.
