You’re the scum on the pond surface,
behind my house,
that absorbs the sun’s radiance without allowing
the water to glitter
also

and you’re the concealer I dab under my eyes
that covers up the puffy ridges
made by tear
tracks,
dried and salty
like the promises you meant to keep

the taste of them
pinches my lips together in disgust,
yet shuts my eyes to
leave me

wanting.

I love this. The images you evoke and the way you break your lines to set the tone create this unmistakable feeling of simply majestic writing. I don't know; that's the word that comes to mind. After reading this poem, I cannot wait to see what else you have written. It's left me... wanting... to read more! :)

Usually I don't understand poems from the TI elite group (you know, the utterly talented and successful type, hope you don't mind). But this makes sense to me, (and does so much more that I don't know how to describe) as do other poems from you. Thank you so very much, Jade.
