your cool hands across my skin--
so close, but no, not ever;
what had been there had seemed so strong--
then slowly you did sever
yourself from me
and now i see:
i was a mere endeavor,
the same as you to she, i see
that that was all i’ll ever be--
i see.
I see.

It's all about empowerment. I dated a guy who didn't have the guts to tell me that it was over, so he didn't talk to me for 2 weeks, and I was left feeling like garbage. It took ages to get over it-- about 9 months, the same number of lines before the first "i see."
