Broken
Our love was broken
like a crack in a glass
that slowly spreads until
it simply cannot be ignored
any longer.
The way your lips met mine,
in a fiery embrace of passion
that was equal parts
love and hate.
A reverberating silence holds
to this day when I think of
how I looked you in the
eyes and asked, “Do you really
love me?”
How can it be that two
people care this much but
still can’t seem to find a way
to make it work.
Because what does “forever”
mean when you’re only 19
and you think you want
to get your life started, but really
you’re afraid to?
I don’t know how I expected
this to last when you and I
couldn’t even last a day without
saying, “I’m done.”
Us was just an entire
bipolar roller coaster of ups that
meant we’d always be together
and downs that meant I never
want to see you again.
But we did not hate each other
darling, we were both just too
broken to even know the
difference.
