On the Inside

Behind a brave face there are lies Behind her smile there is sorrow
Because wherever she looks there’s bullying
The bullying from her friends and even people she doesn’t know
That’s all there is and it hurts so much and cuts deep

She smiles at school, but when she gets home she cries
Because it hurts so much and it doesn’t stop
Everyday is the same Some days are worse than others
But it’s always there
Either words like stalker and nerd or getting pushed in the hallways
On the bus is no better

She keeps a strong face for her parents and friends
But on the inside she’s dying
Dying to tell someone have them understand
But she knows that no one can
No one knows what it’s like to be in her shoes To be her

People may say it as a joke She doesn’t take it like that
They say they’re joking But it hurts all the same
When they do it to make their friends laugh it make is worse
To know her pain makes them laugh
Causes joy
Makes them smile
It hurts

There are still some people who try to help
Who can get her mind off it for a little at least
But there’s still part of her dying on the inside
She will never hurt herself and her message to all the people out there
You know who you are is “If what you see by the eyes doesn’t please you then close your eyes and see from the heart because the heart can see beauty and love more than the eyes could ever wonder”
She says this because it’s always on the inside that counts

I wrote this based on my experience with bullying. It is exactly how I feel and what I want people to gather from this is that bullying really does hurt people even if they don't show it does.
