Imagine all the people asleep right now
The people upstairs in your house, dreaming
Imagine your entire block, who do you think is asleep?
Now, your entire neighborhood
Your entire town, asleep
Some are comfortable, some are too hot
The neighbors down the street are in the same bed,
But the boy who bagged your groceries is alone
The entire city is asleep
Some people lost in fantasy, some in nightmares
Your entire time zone is asleep
Maybe even the entire country
Whatever time, wherever you go
Someone is asleep
Lucidly spinning through the universe
They are experiencing the last hint of magic
While you are reading this
Their subconscious is unfolding secrets to them
That they will struggle to remember the instant they open their eyes

Some people watch the sunrise
But most watch the sunset
They are eager for the dark
Eager to fall into a slumber
Sunrise means the dreams will soon vanish
The Sandman will soon take his nap
And the boy who bagged your groceries
Who is now paralyzed to his pillow
He will rise and rub the shadows from his eyelids
With water, he will rinse away the dust that the Sandman sprinkled on him
I dare you to remember the feeling

Even with nine and a half hours of sleep
Torpidity stills hits like a torpedo
The sand sprinkles his glitter too early
And you watch not just one
But two peers fall asleep in a lecture
Arithmetics and literature can help your mind grow
But the imagination that skips along your daydreams
Become reality when you shut your eyes

Sleep is the only legal drug
That gives you the power to hallucinate
Dreams are your subconscious comforting you
Reminding you that everything is temporary
That is why once you are rested, you wake up
