True Friends are like Trees
People should be more like trees.
Trees are honest and they can hide nothing.
We see their scars and imperfection,
Their gnarled branches and broken limbs.
And creatures still appreciate them for the love and protection they give,
Which they give freely.
We say that scars should be hidden, and imperfections unknown,
And that we must look pretty and perfect to get anywhere,
But are our hearts a safe place for others?
Trees look so lonely,
Standing tall and distant.
We often stand in swarms of people,
Almost drowning from closeness.
But the branches of trees are always intertwined with each other,
And when people come to cut the tree down,
Its friends hold it up with their roots,
Keeping it safely in the ground.
What arms do we have to catch us when we fall,
Or to keep us where we need to be?
So we need friends like trees,
Who are always there to catch us when we fall,
And don't care if we are scared, battered and bruised.
Trees always stay and never give up,
So do true friends.
