The Play

The Earth:
The stage for a magnificent play,
A story of absolute power,
A story to last until the end of time.

The sun rises,
The leader of the virtuous
Smiling upon the Earth,
Marking the beginning
Of the reign of the heavenly glow
A light as bright as the whitest snowfall
The light revealing all of the bright and vivid colors of the landscapes
As it shines upon the actors,
The people, with seemingly golden skin
Their teamwork, their efforts
To build, create, and progress,
The blisters from the rough, worn tools in their hands
Only make them prouder of the good they have done
The evil hides, for the Sun provides too much protection.

The sun sets, and as the shone-upon rest,
The moon, the dark dictator,
Sanctifier of sin,
Takes the throne
And begins its reign, shining the darkness
So that the evil may safely play
In the standstill world of creation.
One can smell the foulest of smells, like rotting flesh, as
Cackling and whooping,
The hidden people emerge
To destroy, crumble, relapse,
Saddening the Earth with each fallen brick
As the resting can do nothing but wait
Until their lord returns.

But there is a time,
Between the reigns of
The two lords,
A time when each sit
Juxtaposed at opposite ends of the stage,
A time when there is not a heavenly glow
But no absence either,
Like a purgatory between heaven and hell,
As if God and Satan are staring each other down.
This time is the true test,
The show of character,
The battle between the
Light and dark,
Good versus evil,
A transition,
Ever existing between
The two lives,
Without which
There would be no cycle.

The author's comments:
This poem's purpose is to reveal the fight between good and evil inside all of us, the fight over control of our actions. This battle is like a sunrise or sunset, the sun and moon, the good and evil, are present on opposite sides of the world, but only one will prevail. It is up to each person to choose whether their life will be a sunrise or a sunset.
