"If you don't like the road you're walking down, start paving a new one."

Finding who you are is
swimming in the ocean,
Awards annually received yet
unsure of tomorrow’s promises;

Identity is a companion to a
cursing fate,
Leaving myriads feeling
cold, bare, and alone;

University letters flood
every student,
Reminding parents of
summers spent long ago;

Everyone, ultimately, reaches
success or becomes a failure;

Which one will you be?

The author's comments:
As a high school student making decisions about college and life after graduation, this poem is special to me. In theory, it symbolizes my personal struggle with becoming a huge success or an utter failure. I hope this piece will show others that they are not alone- that there are people out there who also experience doubts about tomorrow.
