I am from road trips through the plains
To long walks in the dunes.

I am from vacations at the beach
To school days on the hills.

I am from visits to grandma in the afternoon
With apple juice and a scratched knee.

I am from the disparage of time
That goes by fast to a little child.

I am from the place where things are gone,
Alive only in the ayes who saw.

I am from the place where everyone speaks
Nobody does what our future needs.

I am from the town where time goes by
Without noticing or saying goodbye.

I am from the place that used to be home.

I am from Venezuela. I have lived there almost all my life and I love my country, not only because it is really my home, but because it is the place where all (or almost all) my memories come from. I recently moved to the US because of the problems in Venezuela; it has been a great opportunity and I am glad I had it. At the same time it has been hard to say goodye to what I thought my life was. In my english class we had to write a poem about our heritage, initially I had these super cheerful ideas (because Venezuela is a beatiful pleace regardless of the political situation) but it turned out to be nostalgic and sad. I know I can't do much from here, but I do believe poetry is a type of prayer. And from here, I pray for the country that is still alive in my memories.

As something additional I would like to thank my amazing english teacher, Lorien Cuneo that has made me love engish the way I do.
Also my grandmother who passed away when I was 7, becuase she was part of my inspiration and because I love her :)
To my parents and my brother Diego
