compassion

never tie yourself to someone
who does not tether their self to you in kind.
better yet, never attach yourself to anyone at all.
i find it far better to wander,
to stir with the slightest of winds
than to feel the strains of
compassion:
a feature i wish could be unlearned,
undone like the syllables of your name.
