I remember packing our car, so excited for the week in Traverse City
I remember nine hours on the road staring, out the window at never ending fields of corn
I remember talking on a walkie talkie with my friend Alayna a few cars ahead
I remember arriving to a orange house on a HUGE lake
I remember the lake was called Spider Lake, which had no relation to spiders at all
I remember getting pushed off the dock into the lake by my sister Abby
I remember muck from the lake going up to my hips
I remember trying to get out of the water quickly as possible to get out of the muck
I remember going to the island in the middle of the lake and finding lots of mussel shells
I remember going to Lake Michigan to see the Blue Angels pass over us
I remember after they passed the sky was filled with smoke and exhaust
I remember the sound of huge engines howling over our heads
I remember the Blue Angels looked like bullets flying through the air
I remember the Blue Angels were U.S Navy Jets
I remember we saw them on the 4th of July
I remember the water of Lake Michigan seemed to be cleaner than here in Wisconsin
I remember the crystal, clear, cool water
I remember walking to the Fourth of July parade and getting lots of Tootsie Rolls
I remember going on our pontoon boat and watching the fireworks
I remember sleeping every night for a week, sleeping on a single bed with my sister
I remember waking up every morning on the ground because she pushed me off in the middle of the night
I remember feeling so annoyed waking up on the hard, cold floor
I remember seeing and meeting my friends, family
I remember hiking up sand dunes piled 200 feet high
I remember feeling like I was in a desert, but the air was much cooler
I remember it being foggy, so we couldn’t even see Lake Michigan when we went to the sand dunes
I remember running down the sand dunes so fast it felt like I was flying
I remember going on the huge Mackinac Bridge
I remember my dad yelling from the front seat of the car,” Don’t get too close to the edge!”
I remember going on the ferry to get to the Mackinac Island
I remember walking around the island and seeing the longest hotel in the world
I remember the hotel’s name was The Grand Hotel
I remember going on a horse and wagon to see the arch of stone
I remember going going shopping downtown Mackinac Island
I remember buying a cheeseburger hat at one of the shops
I remember eating the famous Mackinac fudge
I remember going paddle boating on the lake to get to the Island
I remember sitting on the front of the pontoon boat letting the cool waves hit our scorching feet
I remember we got pulled over by the boat police because we had our feet off the side of the boat
I remember driving the boat around the lake (with my dad’s help)
I remember making sand castles on our little sandy beach by the dock
I remember stepping on a bee on the last day and getting stung
I remember feeling devastated not being able to go swimming in the beautiful water
I remember packing up our minivan getting ready to go home
I remember trying to put everything in the van because my mom packed WAY too much!!
I remember thinking that we all had packed a lot (we did)
I remember driving home thinking, “That was the best vacation ever!”
