"I can be changed by what happens to me, but I refuse to be reduced by it." -Maya Angelou

As I grow up,
The line between black and white,
Blurs;
Like smeared condensation on cold windows,
the brooding clouds before a storm.
The innocence worn so easily in youth,
Has been shed.
Like a child's white scarf,
Discarded in a hurry,
Then trampled blindly,
Left tattered in a muddy puddle of water,
The child's neck now bare and covered in goosebumps,
As they stand alone,
Rain sluicing down their cheeks,
As they stand alone,
Realizing what they have lost.

The author's comments:
Everyone is always in such a hurry to grow up and get a car and a job and be an adult. But with this maturity, the world start's looking different, as you realize that everything doesn't have an obvious answer. You are no longer a care-free child who takes everything at face value, instead finding yourself faced with tough reality, slightly missing the innocent mindset of youth.
