Daddy dear
Daddy dear
thank you for the empty blue eyes
that stare at me from mirrors
and the tinted windows of cars
that are like the one you drove away in
the last time I saw you
five years ago.
thank you for these blue eyes
that taint a face that would
otherwise
allow me to forget broken promises.
thank you for these eyes
that can hold in the tears
that have long since learned that falling is
useless.
Daddy dear
thank you for the reminder
that pain is always watching me
but
also
that I’ve gotten over it before
that I’ve stitched up the holes of my heart,
saturated my hands with red
and learned how to wash disaster off
in the sink.
