How do you fall asleep
When there are so many thoughts at war in your head?

Their battle is fierce
They consume your rest
As if it never happened
And leave you thinking
Thinking way too hard about things that don't matter
Do they matter?

They relentlessly duel for the sake of future thoughts
What will happen tomorrow?
The thoughts explode like a bomb
However there's no answer
Yet they keep fighting

The tossing and turning displaces your sheets
Like a sailor in the choppy Sea of Dreams
Your eyes burn from being unable to close them
Yet all you see is darkness
But the thoughts glow as brightly as the northern star
Guiding you through the night
I wish they would come to a stalemate
Or at least wait until morning.

The author's comments:
The inspiration for this poem was one night when, no matter what, I just could not fall asleep. I was trying so hard to clear my mind but I felt as if a war was going on in my head. Then i realized going to sleep can easily be compared to war because there is so much going on in your head.
