"The heart breaks and breaks and lives by breaking. It is necessary to go through dark and deeper dark and not to turn." The Testing Tree

When he looked at her
He could see a Goddess
Whose wind-blown hair
Just ached to be caressed

When she looked at him
She saw the eyes of the Devil
Whose endless pit of darkness
Seemed to taint her innocence

When he looked at her
He heard her laugh
A soft, tinkling sound
That warmed his cold heart

When she looked at him
She heard the whisper of Sin
A cold stabbing sound
That pierced and bled he heart

When he looked at her
Warmth blossomed in his chest
His heart ached for her
As their distance grew farther

When she looked at him
Numbness spread in her chest
Her heart feared him
As his distance grew closer

When he looked at her
She was fire
Hot and untouchable
So pure and beautiful

When she looked at him
He was Ice
Cold and unforgiving
So frozen and fearful

When they looked at each other
They saw what the other was
He was Ice and she his warmth
She was Fire and he her coldness

When they looked at each other
They knew they could not be
For she loved him
And he hated her

The author's comments:
This...just sort of happened, especially the ending. I had originally wrote this for an English project; can't remember the prompt though. I don't really know why I wrote this, except for the necessity of passing English. Although, I most likely had a reason. Anyway, the poem is pretty much explanatory. It's about two opposites. It's about how love and hate can seem so similar to each other. How the border between the two is very thin.
