One Summer's Day

The ocean roars
In front of the surfer,
As he watches the massive waves
Crash against the shore line

The air is filled
With the scent of salty water.
It brushes against his sunburned face
And the odor lingers beneath his nose.

The sun’s heat is intense
As it attacks the cool feel of the beach,
This heat transfers through his feet,
As he wiggles his toes
Through the tiny grains of sand

His experienced hand grasps the board firmly
Pressing his fingers close to
The rugged surface.
All in preparation
For the upcoming tide

These days
Are those he lives for,
And these are the days,
The days with just him and his board,
Taking life day by day.
