I had goals
until I began to feel the ache
of the ruler which is perpetually
slapping my knuckles.
I had goals
until I heard the whispers
of my peers reciting letters and
numbers
like the savage lurking in my bed
sheets.
I had goals
until I was pushed by a darkness
into the pages of my nightmares
where an apathetic gauze clouded
my vision.
