Ode to the Moth
Earthbound
Tried and tied to shifting ground
Hunger gnaws from core to limb
Rain the sad and beating hymn
Grow I now from humble worm
No way to run or hide from storm
Blending truth and lies I hide
From everything but my life inside
Greater I seem from time of birth
Stronger than I feel is worth
Spinning my dreams on webs of silk
I weave a home from cloth of milk
Safe and sound now bide my time
To drink of transformation’s wine
And in the dark I shed at last
What time and thought have made my mask
Sleeping deep and calming dream
What I am is how I seem
Biting now my final bond
To break what I myself had spawned
Tearing free my shining wings
I see again the song I sing
Shimmering with a soul of grace
I soar and flit and find my place
Seeking always for my light
Sleeping by day and burning by night
