Failure
The chasm stands before us
The birds take off around us
We can’t fly for we have no wings
 They soar with simple ease
Those around me jump as though they are one of them
The air wrenches them from their reality
 and they
 in turn
 fall
They watch the others, but jump anyway
Desperation shrieking as they tumble through uncaring nothingness
I will succeed I will succeed
They do not see they are wrong till they lie in agony next to their predecessor
 They do not learn
I will not be one of them
I close my eyes and feel the wind sing as it lies me softly down
The ground embraces me with its’ merciful touch
 I die in peace
 Now I have wings
 I will learn to fly
