Sisters

This is a poem for my sister Tawney Sue-Lynn.
At the mall or at school or anywhere, people think were dating but they are only right that we are more than friends.
My parents are yours, and yours are mine, which is a good thing because it means we’re always at home no matter where we are.
If you’re happy and want a hug you’ll raise your shoulders and extend your arms, yours on bottom, mine on top.
Your coffee has too little creamer and mine, too much but by the time we were lost halfway to Disneyland it didn’t matter.
The ride there we laughed, the ride home we cried but our journey has a long way yet to go.
Let me be your car’s radio as you travel that road; you could keep going without me but I’d make the ride something you’d enjoy.
We’ve been through similar trials and I know they were put in our way so we could better help each other.
Words are beautiful and meaningful and beyond important but even they aren’t enough to tell you how thankful I am.
Having a best friend may be common but you are anything but that and I’m honored to be able to give you that title.
So, I’ll call you Ty and you’ll call me Mel and we will continue to make shirts and eat popsicles at midnight, dying laughing on your kitchen floor.
I love you Tawney Sue-Lynn, my one and only sister.
