The ring is an anchor
A weight in my pocket
The matching piece
To your grandmother’s locket
I remember the day
Your dad gave it to me
A fishing trip north
“No more I, boy, it’s we.”
I swallow quite slowly
My feet feel like lead
I’m nervous and shaking
Fighting thoughts in my head
A look at you calms me
Soft curls frame your face
Pink lips, rosy cheeks
A long dress made of lace
I stand up from the table
I get down on one knee
You let out a cry
I feel weightless and free
If I’m sure of one thing,
It’s your place in my life
So I smile and say,
“Will you please be my wife?”
