"Ew, it's going to Rayne! Stay away from Rayne!" the children, adults, and elders screeched,
laughter seemingly shaking the room.
But little Rayne couldn't help her name,
or that her peers were blind to their effect on her
She was disappointed that the tears she made helped nothing
Nothing, until it was her time.

Millions of years later and here I stand, grass poking my toes
surrounded by the shiver of the morning air and breath of the breeze
A tear lands on my cheek and I gave a small shriek
For what mutated tear should fall from the dawn of the sky
and not from an eye of mine?

Though initially wary, I realize it's not scary
that these cold tears are chilling my bones
And washing away my fears, my anger, my pain
Letting them beg but slipping to the ground where they belong.

My new friends are striking everything, forcing on them a shine
But not a force unwanted, that is for certain
I can't help but shout in joy and dance in the droplets
Until my lungs are begging me to cease.

The animals share my enlightenment and drink from the puddles
I'm tempted to let my tongue taste the gift from heaven
Instead I raise my head with a smile of thanks to the sobbing skies
The planet has never given me such presents galore before.

But all too soon my saviors slice the clouds
Half as much, until they cut no more
And the majestic assault ends as the new burst of life begins
Which makes the gloom from the finale bloom into a mural of green

Odd, isn't it, how Rayne hurt so deeply
But somehow turned her sorrow into the showers of the earth
For she knew that the tears she shed could create something beautiful
Something beautiful enough to make her despair worthwhile
And help heal the souls of the humans who so badly
Yearned the martyr in the sky's donation.
