You said you like your coffee black.
At first I laughed because I thought
you were just trying to act cool,

but it makes sense to me now—
the bitterness in your heart is so strong
you don’t even notice it when you drink.

You asked me if I wanted to try some—
I drank it all and asked for more.
I wanted to impress you.

Are you impressed?
Do you like the way your black coffee
is the only thing pumping through my veins?
