This hard rocky road
Cold like the treat,
Ominous and hard, this path
Has been beat.

You are meant for;
Greatness is your destiny.
Put your burdens on my shoulders.
Rest on my back

In my wake,
My womb, I’ll brand this
World and scar the earth
Even beyond the tomb.

In this epic, through the red seas
Past the dark knights
Beyond my bloodied knees
Will I find the
Strength
Or will I
Fail
My Creed?

The author's comments:
In his poem “Rocky Road”, Javonte D talks about his fate and his mandatory success. He must succeed to prevent failing his “Creed” (line 20). He must follow a hard road to success to support his family as he said in line 5-8 “/ You are meant for; /
/Greatness is your destiny. /Put your burdens on my shoulders. /Rest on my back/”. Ultimately his goal is success, no matter what obstacles lie ahead. He decided to use enjambment to convey this message, as well as concrete sensory details such as “hard” (line 3) and “bloodied” (line 15).
He truly feels that this is his destiny; he can’t escape it.
