Airplane
Isn’t there something incredible
about know that when you fell
out of an airplane
That the zipper on your jeans
stayed up exactly as it should have
All of the air resistance and
gravity and inevitable
adrenaline couldn’t alter this
tiny, persistent fact
And likewise
The cloth of your jeans
did not crumble or dissolve
or change at all
It withstood the wind
and the fall
But not the winter
Neither did I
We
And it’s satisfying
knowing that
When I sing
When I’m cute
When I’m liked
There’s always that tiny
part of you
Still loving me
still wanting my
validation
to not crumble or dissolve
We’ve moved on
You first,
then me,
better
We’re both happy and done
But it’s tiny times like these,
times that are starting to trickle away (at last)
When it is winter and i’m trying to make you
last
You’ve become a verb and I’ve
transcended that self
And you’ve transcended
The airplane
