Stranger
I think I know you.
I’ve seen you before,
Yesterday perhaps, in the parking lot.
You were scolding a child
As he whimpered and cried
With his puffed-out lips and watery eyes.
I have a feeling I saw you
Talking to my boss at the
Workplace – the job I left –
You might have been laughing
But I had resigned,
So I might not know for sure.
I might have known you
Since my schooldays.
Were you a mate, or another
Of those unknown friends?
I’ll look you up in the yearbook
If I still can’t place you.
It might be today itself
That I came to know you
As a miracle of Time and Life!
For you are special, Stranger,
An illuminating novelty,
And I see you in a light divine.
Or do I not know you anymore?
Were you a dear one
In a previous life?
Then I have lost you already
And you are but a
Recurring desire in this strife.
I do not know why.
